Scared sleeping
"Just put yourself in my hands for two years," said the shrink. "Come to me three times a week, and I'll cure your fears."
"How much do you charge?"
"A hundred dollars per visit."
"I'll sleep on it," said Shakey.
Six months later the doctor met Shakey on the street. "Why didn't you ever
come to see me again?" asked the psychiatrist.
"For a hundred buck's a visit? A bartender cured me for ten dollars."
"Is that so! How?"
"He told me to cut the legs off the bed!"
Doctor ..Doctor..
Are you choking?
No, I really did!
Doctor, Doctor I think I need glasses
You certainly do, Sir, this is a fish and chip shop!
Doctor, Doctor my son has swallowed my pen, what should I do?
Use a pencil ‘till I get there
Doctor, Doctor I think I'm a bell?
Take these and if it doesn't help give me a ring!
Doctor, Doctor I think I'm suffering from Deja Vu!
Didn't I see you yesterday?
Doctor, Doctor I've got wind! Can you give me something?
Yes - here's a kite!
Doctor, how do I stop my nose from running?!
Stick your foot out and trip it up!

Unprecedented day of action to stop climate change on 10/10/10
From beaches in South Africa where penguins were rescued, to parks in Moscow, where 3,000 kg of acorns were collected to replant trees in forests devastated by fires this summer, thousands of people got to work yesterday to stop climate change.
In Argentina, Greenpeace activists took advantage of the day to denounce a proposed coal-fired power plant, and ask for wind turbines instead. Clean energy solutions exist – and renewable energy combined with energy savings have proved to be the viable alternative that the world needs.
This is why in Turkey, demonstrators covered in oil called for an Energy [R]evolution. Fossil fuel disasters like the oil spill that hit the Gulf of Mexico this summer, or coal ash disasters, are not the price we have to pay to supply our energy needs.
Deforestation, a major source of global greenhouse gas emissions, wasn’t forgotten either – and some truly inspiring actions to protect our forests took place. In Moscow, Russia, volunteers collected 3,000 kg of acorns to help replant the forests that have been devastated by forest fires during this summer of extreme weather.
In Denmark, volunteers raised awareness in the streets about the devastating effects of deforestation. They also handed out young tree plants to encourage local citizens to start planting.
Transport, also a major cause of greenhouse gas emission, was addressed in Sweden where activists dressed as the wind, sun and water thanked passengers in the subway for choosing this mode of transportation.
Some world leaders even got to work – like Mohamed Nasheed of the Maldivescommitted to installing solar panels on the White House later this year. However, as nice as solar panels on a house are – we expect more from our leaders. We expect that, as thousands did the most they could yesterday, they get to work at the level they can and set the world on a path to clean energy and a safe planet to live on. installing solar panels on the presidential house. Barack Obama also
If politicians truly want to stop climate change, they should be getting to work like everyone did on October 10th – to make the right policy changes that will move the world away from dirty, deadly fossil fuels and towards an Energy [R]evolution.

No laps for warm laptops; skin damage is possible
Doing it a lot can lead to "toasted skin syndrome," an unusual-looking mottled skin condition caused by long-term heat exposure, according to medical reports.
In one recent case, a 12-year-old boy developed a sponge-patterned skin discoloration on his left thigh after playing computer games a few hours every day for several months.
"He recognized that the laptop got hot on the left side; however, regardless of that, he did not change its position," Swiss researchers reported in an article published Monday in the journal Pediatrics.
Another case involved a Virginia law student who sought treatment for the mottled discoloration on her leg.
Dr. Kimberley Salkey, who treated the young woman, was stumped until she learned the student spent about six hours a day working with her computer propped on her lap. The temperature underneath registered 125 degrees.
That case, from 2007, is one of 10 laptop-related cases reported in medical journals in the past six years.
The condition also can be caused by overuse of heating pads and other heat sources that usually aren't hot enough to cause burns. It's generally harmless but can cause permanent skin darkening. In very rare cases, it can cause damage leading to skin cancers, said the Swiss researchers, Drs. Andreas Arnold and Peter Itin from University Hospital Basel. They do not cite any skin cancer cases linked to laptop use, but suggest, to be safe, placing a carrying case or other heat shield under the laptop if you have to hold it in your lap.
Salkey, an assistant dermatology professor at Eastern Virginia Medical School, said that under the microscope, the affected skin resembles skin damaged by long-term sun exposure.
Major manufacturers including Apple, Hewlett Packard and Dell warn in user manuals against placing laptops on laps or exposed skin for extended periods of time because of the risk for burns.
A medical report several years ago found that men who used laptops on their laps had elevated scrotum temperatures. If prolonged, that kind of heat can decrease sperm production, which can potentially lead to infertility. Whether laptop use itself can cause that kind of harm hasn't been confirmed.
In the past, "toasted skin syndrome" has occurred in workers whose jobs require being close to a heat source, including bakers and glass blowers, and, before central heating, in people who huddled near potbellied stoves to stay warm.
Dr. Anthony J. Mancini, dermatology chief at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago, said he'd treated a boy who developed the condition from using a heating pad "hours at a time" to soothe a thigh injured in soccer. Mancini said he'd also seen a case caused by a hot water bottle.
He noted that chronic, prolonged skin inflammation can potentially increase chances for squamous cell skin cancer, which is more aggressive than the most common skin cancer. But Mancini said it's unlikely computer use would lead to cancer since it's so easy to avoid prolonged close skin contact with laptops.
Perusahaan Perlu Libatkan Media Sosial

Mengapa Bersyukur Usai Bersin?

Conflict in Tarakan displaces 32,000 people
The refugees are being sheltered at police and military facilities as well as school buildings across the city, a security officer said on Wednesday.
One of the displaced people, Rini, said she and her family sought shelter at the Tarakan police headquarters for safety reasons. “We feel secure here rather than staying at home,” she said as quoted by kompas.com.
Earlier in the day, Mayor Udin Hianggio visited the displaced people in a number of refugee centers to appease them.
“Please be patient. I, the police chief, security authorities and the governor will solve the problem as soon as possible so that peace and order can be restored,” he told the refugees.
At least three people have been killed in the clashes between indigenous Dayak ethnic group and Bugis migrants, which erupted on Sunday night. (jakartapost/30092010)

An Indian who Loves Indonesia .Navrekha Sharma intends to write a book about Indonesia.
VIVAnews - Navrekha Sharma’s love for Indonesia has brought her back to this country. However, her return did not regard her duty as a diplomat, but her mission to write a book.
“This is my third mission in Indonesia. Unlike my two other previous missions, which were state duties, this time my mission was based on personal interest which is writing a book on the contemporary relationship between India and Indonesia,” Sharma said at a discussion and a small reunion with scholars and Indonesian diplomats at the Postgraduate School of Diplomatic Sciences of Paramadina University, Jakarta on Thursday, November 19.
For Sharma, Indonesia is not a foreign country. The diplomat, who was born on January 7, 1948, first worked in Indonesia while serving as Indian Deputy Ambassador for the period of 1993-1996. On June 26, 2006, Sharma returned to Indonesia, as the ambassador.
That was the second time Sharma was trusted to lead Indian diplomatic corps overseas after previously becoming the ambassador for the Philippines. “The first assignment in Indonesia in 1993 was based on the appointment [from the leaders]. But, the second assignment in 2006 was my choice,” Sharma said.
It turns out that Indonesia was Sharma’s last resort in her career as a diplomat. After completing her duty in Indonesia in early 2008, the mother of two retired after 38 years serving Indian Foreign Affairs Ministry.
Regardless, Sharma felt there was still one more thing to do. The thing that has been her obsession while working in Indonesia. “Now I have enough time to write about the relationship between Indonesia and India. I’m determined to gather data and write the book until at least next year,” Sharma said.
Her decision to write the book was based on the irony that she feels. There are more Indonesians who know India from the rapid flow of cultural products to the country such as Bollywood movies and various Indian literary works. Indonesia is also increasingly interested in other Indian products.
In the contrary, a lot of Indian leaders and residents do not know about Indonesia. “Literature on Indonesia is relatively rare. In book stores, Indonesia is only known from Lonely Planet Travel Guide,” Sharma said, referring to a popular tourism guidebook.
“Literature on Indonesia can also be found at Jawaharlal Nehru Library in New Delhi. But, references on Indonesia ceases at the story about the Asian-African Conference in Bandung in 1955,” she said.
That is why Sharma’s upcoming book aims at introducing Indonesia to the Indian public and the world. “I wish my book could tell about the real Indonesia to the Indian leaders. I want them to know more about Indonesia,” the English and French speaking diplomat said.
In the book, Sharma will not only discuss about both countries’ political relations after the independence days, but also on various sides of the relationship during the last twenty years.
According to Sharma, after the 1955 conference in Bandung up to the end of 1980s, the relationship between the countries has been stagnant. During the period, India tends to close itself while Indonesia was facing political and economic instability.
Now, the countries are rising to be new powers in Asia. “India started to open up and actively influence global economy in 1990s while Indonesia keeps on developing since applying political and bureaucratic reform over the past ten years”.
“Both countries, together with China and other developing countries, have proved to be able to survive the global crisis based on their stable economic performances,” Sharma said.
However, it is impossible to maximally use the potentials of the countries as long as they have not known each other and formed solid collaboration. “Therefore, I think the key to improve the relationship is tourism promotion. Indonesia has the potential to attract Indian tourists because it has several historical sites of Hindu and Islamic heritages.
“I also expect that one day, there would be direct flights from Jakarta to New Delhi and the other way around, or other flights connecting other cities in India and Indonesia,” Sharma said.

The ancient games of thieves
The people of Tenganan Pengringsingan caught two thieves red-handed on a Saturday afternoon.
The pilferers, Kepra and Beben, were too busy stealing slices of pork meat dried on the village’s open community hall Bale Agung to notice the villagers had embushed them. The two youths tried to run away, but the villagers cornered them before they had any chance to escape.
As a punishment, the villagers forced the suspects to apply makeup on their faces. Slices of pork meats were tied to their heads, waists, wrists and ankles. The suspects were told to wear odd-looking crowns made up of dried coconut leaves and skirts out of dried banana leaves. The villagers finally colored the suspects’ bare chests with markers.
When they were done with the suspects, Kepra and Beben could have passed for transgender members of royalty from the Kingdom of Loonies.
The punishment didn’t end there. The suspects were escorted across the village, providing ample opportunities for villagers to mock them. Local residents, who lined the street, also had the right to add “fashionable” items to the suspects’ already bizarre costumes.
By the end of the march, the suspects met their heaviest penalty; Tenganan-style forced labor. The villagers had free reins to ask the suspects to do any chore as long as it was related to the preparation of the village’s major religious ritual.
“The suspects must perform whatever tasks the villagers require of them,” the village chief I Komang Karyawan said.
The catch? Kepra and Beben were not real thieves. These innocent young men were handpicked to impersonate thieves in the village’s ancient game of thieves.
Known as Maling-malingan, derived from the word maling (thief), the game is an integral part of the village’s annual religious festival Usaba Sambah, held on the fifth month of the Tenganan calendar, or June in the Gregorian calendar.
“The game is an annual ritual, which has been carried out over centuries,” Karyawan said.
Playtime: Young women in Tenganan play on the Ferris wheel-like, sacred wooden structure during the Usaba Sambah festival.
Karyawan didn’t know precisely when the first Maling-malingan was held. Local folklore only detailed the nature surrounding the first Maling-malingan.
“It was first held several centuries ago during a Usaba Sambah,” he said.
It is believed several villagers stole the meats reserved for sacred offerings during that festival. Locals then devised the game as a way to punish perpetrators.
“It was a sort of collective punishment aimed at humiliating the thieves,” he stressed.
This collective punishment still exists today. Citing an article in local customary law, Karyawan stated a thief would be given the same punishments as in the Maling-malingan.
“Fortunately, we haven’t witnessed any thefts for decades,” he said.
Tenganan Pegringsingan, located 70 kilometers east of Denpasar, is an ancient village home to Bali Aga, a term generally used to refer to indigenous Balinese although it literally means the mountain people of Bali.
Tenganan Pegringsingan’s Bali Aga observe different rituals and hold different religious beliefs from the majority of Balinese. While the large majority of Balinese follow the Trimurti concept of Hinduism, with its three main gods, Brahma the Creator, Wisnu the Sustainer and Siwa the Destroyer, cultural artifacts suggest the people of Tenganan are the last remaining worshippers of Indra, the lord of the sky and thunder in the Hindu pantheon.
The villagers observe strict monogamy. Those who marry outsiders or practice polygamy are banished from the village and stripped of all hereditary rights. The community owns most of the land and property, and the village vehemently protects the forest around the village.
The village is one of the island’s main tourist attractions, providing visitors with a chance to see the weavers of rare double ikat cloth Geringsing in action, as well as the Perang Pandan, during which local youths partake in a duel using clubs of thorny pandanus leaves.

Pregnancy Timeline
Fertilisation occurs and a ball of quickly multiplying cells embeds itself in the lining of the uterus.
In the
Week 5
The mass of cells is developing fast and becomes an embryo. For many women the first sign of pregnancy is a missed period.
Shopbought tests are considered largely reliable so the mother-to-be does not have to have her pregnancy confirmed by her GP. If a first test is negative a second one a few days later may prove positive as hormone levels in the urine rise.
Week 6
The embryo officially becomes a foetus. It is about the size of a baked bean and its spine and nervous system begin to form.
The foetus already has its own blood system and may be a different blood group from its mother. Blood vessels are forming in what will become the umbilical cord and tiny buds which will become limbs appear.
Week 7
The baby´s heart is beginning to develop. Morning sickness and other side effects of early pregnancy may take hold.
Around this time many women find they experience the side-effects of early pregnancy including needing to urinate more often nausea and vomiting and feeling a bit weepy and irritable. All medication including supplements need to be carefully checked as the foetus is undergoing vital development in the first 12 weeks. If the woman has not told her GP or community midwife she is pregnant yet now is a good time to do so.
Week 8
It is quite common to have a first scan at this stage if the woman has had a previous miscarriage or bleeding.
An early scan is often done through the vagina and is used to check the pregnancy is not ectopic. It should show up the baby´s heartbeat. The nervous system is also developing rapidly especially the brain. The head gets bigger and eyes form under the skin of the face. The foetus' limbs are growing and look more like arms and legs. All internal organs are developing and becoming more complex.
Week 9
Women who may be at higher risk of passing on sickle cell anaemia and thalassaemia should be offered a blood test before 10 weeks.
These conditions are rare but serious inherited blood disorders. They are more common in people of certain ethnic
backgrounds including African, Caribbean and some Asian and
Week 10
A scan at 10-13 weeks is recommended to pin down the date of the pregnancy.
Week 11
The umbilical cord is fully formed providing nourishment and removing waste products. The foetus looks fully human now.
Week 12
By this week the threat of miscarriage is much reduced. Many women announce their pregnancy to friends and colleagues.
The foetus is growing in length much more quickly by now it is about eight cm long and weighs about 60 grams. The placenta is now wellformed though it's not yet doing its full job it takes over fully in week 14. The mother is likely to have her first scan this week.
Week 13
The Woman's uterus is becoming larger and is starting to rise out of the pelvis. The foetus can move its head quite easily.
Week 14
Third of the way through. The average pregnancy lasts 266 days or 280 days from the first day of last period.
Week 15
Screening for
On the basis of the blood test results the woman may opt for a Chorionic Villus sample or an amniocentesis which would diagnose Down's syndrome or other chromosomal abnormalities. However these diagnostic tests have a small risk of subsequent miscarriage. An alternative to blood tests is a nuchal translucency scan a new scan offered by some larger hospitals. But again an amniocenteses would be required for firm diagnosis.
Week 16
The foetus now has toe and finger nails eyebrows and eyelashes. It is also covered with downy hair.
The hair that will cover the baby until the last week or so of pregnancy - called lanugo - starts to form. This hair is very fine more like down and it probably serves as some form of insulation and protection for the skin.
Week 17
The foetus can hear noises from the outside world. By this stage the mother is visibly pregnant and the uterus is rising.
Week 18
By this stage the foetus is moving around a lot - probably enough to be felt.
Week 19
The foetus is now about 15-20cm long and weighs about 300g. Milk teeth have formed in the gums.
Week 20
Half way through pregnancy now. Almost all mothers are offered a routine scan. The foetus develops a waxy coating called vernix.
The scan can show the foetus in fine detail and often reveal if the baby is a boy or a girl. However not all hospitals offer to tell parents the sex of the child - and not all parents want to know.
Week 21
The mother may feel short of breath as her uterus pushes against her diaphragm leaving less space for the lungs.
The mother may be offered another ultrasound scan around this time. The scan can check the baby´s spine internal organs and growth are normal.
Week 22
Senses develop: taste buds have started to form on the tongue and the foetus starts to feel touch.
Week 23
The skeleton continues to develop and bones that form the skull begin to harden - but not fully.
Week 24
Antenatal checkup and scan to check the baby´s position. A baby born this early does sometimes survive.
A baby born at 24 weeks may possibly survive but it would have severe breathing difficulties as its lungs would not be strong enough to cope. It would also be very thin lightweight and susceptible to infections.
Week 25
All organs are now in place and the rest of the pregnancy is for growth. Preeclampsia is a risk from here onwards.
This potentially fatal condition causes high blood pressure protein in the urine and swelling caused by fluid retentio
n. The causes are unclear but research suggests it may be linked to an immune reaction to the foetus or the placenta. If the condition is serious women may be advised to take drugs to lower their blood pressure and in some cases an early caesarean or induction may be performed. Serious complications of pregnancy
Week 26
The foetus skin is gradually becoming more opaque than transparent
Week 27
The foetus measures about 34cm and weighs about 800g.
Week 28
Routine check-up to test for preeclampsia. Women with Rhesus negative blood will also be tested for antibodies.
If the
mother has Rh negative blood but the baby is Rh positive she can develop antibodies to her baby´s blood during labour. This is not a problem in the first birth but can affect subsequent pregnancies and result in stillbirth. Fortunately treatment is simple and effective. BBC Health: Ask the doctor - Rhesus disease
Week 29
Some women develop restless leg syndrome in their third trimester.
This is sensations such as crawling tingling or even cramps and burning inside the foot or leg - often in the evening and at night disturbing sleep and making the mother feel she needs to get up and walk around. No-one knows what causes this harmless but irritating condition.
Week 30
Braxton Hicks contractions may begin around now. They are practice contractions which dont usually hurt.
These are irregular, painless contractions which feel like a squeezing sensation near the top of the uterus. If contractions become painful or occur four times an hour or more, the woman should call a doctor as she may be in early labour.
Week 31
The foetus can see now and tell light from dark. The mother´s breasts start to produce colostrum about now
This high calorie milk is produced by the mother to feed the baby for the first few days after birth before normal milk starts.
Week 32
Another antenatal appointment. The foetus is about 42cm and weighs 2.2kg. A baby born now has a good chance of survival.
Week 33
From now the baby should become settled in a head downwards position. A midwife can help to move it if necessary.
Week 34
The mother may find it more difficult to eat full meals as the expanded uterus presses on her stomach.
Week 35
If the mother has been told she may need a planned caesarean, now is a good time to discuss it further.
Week 36
The baby´s head may engage in the pelvis any time now.
Week 37
The baby´s lungs are practically mature now and it can survive unaided. The final weeks in the womb are to put on weight.
Week 38
Babies born from this week onward are not considered early.
Week 39
Another ante-natal appointment. The mother has reached her full size and weight by now.
Week 40
In theory the baby should be born this week. The mother´s cervix prepares for the birth by softening.
Week 41
First babies are often up to a week late but if there are signs of distress to mother or child the birth will be induced.
